Frequently Asked Questions Page

Will I be Manipulated?

Chiropractic is much more than manipulation and treating back pain. The belief that chiropractors only technique choice is to manipulate is the most common  misconception with chiropractic treatment. A standard appointment usually lasts 25 minutes, whilst a joint manipulation last only seconds. Following diagnosis and discussion most  treatments will comprise a combination of:

Manipulation is a highly specialised and skilful technique. Sometimes when a spinal joint is not moving, manipulation may be used to restore normal spinal movement and range of motion.   Chiropractors are trained to know when to and when not to use manipulation. Manipulation is only used with patient consent, when deemed safe, and to be of great benefit to the patient’s condition.

The most important factor of each  consultation is that the patient is comfortable with the techniques used. If you do not like manipulation or dry needling,  there are many other techniques we can use in your treatment. Just let us know before the treatment starts.

What Does A Treatment Session Involve?

Typically a treatment session will involve a combination of passive techniques (see techniques used), exercise prescription and patient education. The diagnosis and treatment options will be discussed prior to starting treatment.  Depending on the phase of care some consultations may only involve treatment, while other sessions may only involve exercise prescription. Each treatment session is tailored to you progress and your specific needs at that time.

Is Chiropractic Safe?

Your safety is our first concern.  The treatment techniques we will use will depend on your diagnosis, established at the initial consultation. The clinical examination will guarantee you are treated in the safest fashion.

We will also work closely with other medical professional to ensure you are appropriately referred if you condition requires a specialist opinion or imaging.

How Long Will My Appointment take?

At Fluid Chiropractic Kiama, the initial consultation is 45 minutes. The initial consultation is a clinical examination that covers a thorough medical  history, orthopaedic, movement and neurological  examination. Your diagnosis, treatment and treatment plan are also covered. This appointment will involve comprehensive testing and information gathering.  The more information we have, the more accurate the diagnosis is. This leads to the development of a better treatment plan.

A standard consultation is 25 minutes.

How Many Appointments will I Need?

The number of appointments is dependent on the presentation of each individual patient. Effective resolution of pain  is dose dependent meaning a number of treatments are needed to increase effectiveness. The techniques used with  each consultation  will vary as you move through different phases of rehabilitation. Complete recovery involves regaining the  movement control and stability that we lose when injured. This takes times to progress. We will provide you with the  best rehabilitation program for a speedy recovery.  We always endeavour to get our patients better and quickly as possible without risk of re-injury.
